Los Nancites' commitments
Our love for Costa Rica goes far beyond its scenery. For many years, we have been doing our part to protect its biodiversity and preserve what makes its nature so precious.
How we act
At Los Nancites, protecting nature was part of our lives long before the estate was created.
Already involved in environmental protection in the late 1980s, we carried that commitment on in Costa Rica by regularly planting trees on our land.
We also plant trees on our neighbors' land. These trees provide food and shelter for local wildlife. We also organize fundraisers to support organizations that protect the local flora and fauna.
Tourism & the environment
Not all tourism is equal. The impact is very different depending on whether you travel to a country that protects nature or one that shrinks wild areas to build oversized resorts.
By choosing Costa Rica, you help steer the country's economy toward protecting nature. With national parks and reserves covering about 25% of its land, Costa Rica has turned its natural heritage into true wealth.
The country can also be proud of large-scale reforestation. Forest cover grew from about 20% in 1987 to nearly 55% in 2021. This is partly thanks to tourism revenue, but also to deliberate policies and concrete incentives.
So your visit indirectly contributes to protecting ecosystems. Choosing a country whose identity is built on protecting nature also means supporting a different model of development.
